History
In the colonial period, hounds were imported into the United States for the popular sport of fox hunting. Various breeds of foxhounds and other hunting hounds were imported from England, Ireland, and France
Care and Health
Needs regular exercise to prevent chewing, digging, and other problems stemming from boredom. Regular visits to the vet are recommended.
Fun Fact
Many of today's coonhounds can trace their origins to the French Blue Gascon Hounds. There is evidence that George Washington was one of the first people in North America to own an American English Coonhound. George Washington was an avid foxhunter and definitely owned and bred foxhounds.
