History
In 1906 the Pekingese was recognized and registered as a purebred dog breed by the American Kennel Club. This pup was first introduced to the West by returning British soldiers. They brought a litter of Peke puppies to their liege, Queen Victoria.
Care and Health
The leading cause of death for Pekingese, as for many other Toy breeds, is trauma. Keeping the Pekingese coat healthy and presentable requires daily brushing, and a trip to the groomer every 8–12 weeks.
